Simply put, it’s the slightly tongue-in-cheek name I adopted to describe my personal spiritual path, an eclectic and frequently irreverent NeoPagan brand of mysticism dedicated to the path of sacred romance. My approach to the Divine, much like that of Sufism, is one of lover to Beloved.
It grew out of my longing for a devotional practice celebrating Love in a capital-r Romantic sense– that is, like the secular Romantic movement of the nineteenth century, a spiritual philosophy encompassing all areas of life. In Paganism, sacred love tends to get a bad rap as either the naive fluffy-bunny posturings of girls addicted to pink, or the self-indulgent opportunism of the market towards which books like “101 Sexy Tantric Love Spells To Attract Your Astrological Feng Shui Soul Mate” are aimed. I felt that there was a need for a serious (though never humorless!) Pagan practice delving into the great mysteries of love and romance, and that it was possible to do love magic that was both responsible and meaningful.
Because most of the writing in this blog stems from my spiritual explorations into Romancy, there will naturally be a spiritual and more particularly Pagan slant to the things you will read here. However, I don’t consider this to be a religious blog, except perhaps as the Dalai Lama meant when he spoke of “the universal religion of love”. I welcome other religious points of view as well as agnostic or atheistic ones, and I hope you may still find something of interest here even if our beliefs are radically different.
I run a discussion group for the exploration of Romancy, open to all regardless of whether it intrigues you as a path or is merely something you’d like to know more about. You can reach me at thebloomingheart at gmail if you’d like to know more.
